Where to Eat

Breakfast

Collins Quarter: Hands down the best avocado toast you’ll ever have. This place accumulates a large line so make sure you get there early or be prepared to wait amongst the rest of Savannah’s tourists for a bite to eat. Lucky for you, Savannah GA is an open-container city, so you can pop in at the bar and order a Sake-Bloody Mary to go! These Aussie’s really know how to serve up a meal!

Big Bon Bodega: Absolutely fantastic bagels with a ton of outdoor seating. You can always order ahead and get them to go and eat it on a bench in Forsyth Park a la Forest Gump. They are not open on Sunday so plan accordingly.

Foxy Loxy Cafe: Charming little cafe featuring freshly baked treats (like a Kolache and other breakfast staples) and a ton of wonderful coffee options. I recommend walking down there from wherever your staying and ordering a few different kolaches and an iced coffee.

The Fitzroy: The best brunch you’ll have outside of the Collins Quarter in Savannah GA. The ricotta pancakes were to die for and always order a plate of duck fat fries for the table.

Proof & Provision inside of the Desoto Hotel: We have a P&P in Atlanta but sadly ours does not offer breakfast like this one! I was intrigued by their Southern takes on classic breakfast dishes and they had a variety of delicious things to nibble on like bruschetta with manchego cream.

Soho South Café: An eclectic eatery that’s open for all meals, this place had a hearty crowd for when we walked in on Sunday morning. They don’t take reservations so plan accordingly!

Gryphon: A tea room that got lost in 1950’s. The décor is incredible. The walls are stacked with books and the patrons were happily dining away at their little café tables. We will have to visit it next time we go.

Dinner

The Common Thread: The new kid on the block in Savannah GA and it is hands down one of THE BEST restaurants I’ve eaten at in years! The old house has been converted into a multi-room dining experience, there is a Chef’s table and plenty of places to cozy up with a good meal. You definitely need a reservation so make sure to book this ASAP. The dishes are all locally inspired and grown.

Husk: Husk puts on a dining experience that is perfectly situated for a group night out. The menu is fresh and seafood-focused and the cocktails are fantastic. Definitely recommend dining here.

St. Neo’s Brasserie: A gorgeous French Steakhouse vibe with a wonderful menu to match. Everything on the menu is terrific and I highly recommend ordering the seafood tower with friends.

Madame Butterfly: This upscale casual restaurant will have you singing from the rooftops of how delicious everything was. It’s a Korean steakhouse so get ready for Korean fusion classics and traditional Korean dishes.

The Fat Radish: We didn’t get to eat here but the menu looks divine! This restaurant group knows how to put together a tremendously wonderful experience for their diners. Definitely recommend taking advantage of their picnic basket option on Sunday when you can.

The Grey: A bus depot turned hot-spot eatery, the star of this place is their cocktails, cocktail bar, and oyster menu! Each dish we ordered was in constant competition for “Who ordered the best dish”, as we passed our plates around. Make sure you make a reservation, they book up well in advance.

1540 Room inside of the Desoto Hotel: This place is amazingly gorgeous. It has so much natural light, beautifully high ceilings, incredible Edison bulb chandeliers, and the food looked incredible. We ran out of time to eat here, but if a book’s cover is a good judge of its writing, this place is sure to impress!

Sweets

Leopold’s Ice Cream: Call me basic, but they have THE BEST strawberry ice cream. I won’t wait in line for much, but that is one treat I’m willing to lock my knees out for. If trying to avoid the crowds, try to go during an off hour, like 11am or 3pm. Chances are there will still be a line, but not the hair-pulling type I’ve endured in visit’s past.

Back in the Day Bakery: I wouldn’t say this is walkable if you are staying near the historic district, but the baked goods are worth the hoof if you are trying to stay calorie neutral during your visit!

Mirabelle Café: An Instagrammers dream- white marble tables, impressive chandelier, charming wallpaper throughout, coffee poured with hearts, and the most sinful butter smell that you’ll ever walk into. The liege waffles come in a variety of ways but I’ve never tasted one outside of the classic Nutella, strawberry and whipped cream combination.

Chocolat by Adam Turoni: With two locations in Savannah you’re going to have to make at least one stop- this place is very beautiful. The chocolates are expensive and almost too pretty to eat. I recommend grabbing one truffle to split just to say you did it.

Drinks

The Artillery: Savannah is lucky to have operations that are just for drinking. The Artillery boasts a unique collection of antique drinks and tinctures to settle your spirits. They just have a couple of rules for you to follow listed on their menu, like put your phone down and talk to your companions!

Peregrin Rooftop Bar:  Located on top of the Perry Lane hotel, this bar is super swanky and a perfect place to foster that excuse of dressing up and heading somewhere for drinks.

Rocks on the Roof: Located at the top of the Bohemian Hotel, you must experience this bar at least once while you go to Savannah. It has a spectacular 360 view of the Savannah River as well as the streets on the other side. The cocktails are typical, but the view is worth it! Keep in mind you must get on the list downstairs to make it up. Try to aim for a sunset cocktail hour!

Things to do

Antique Shopping: If you like to look at old treasures there are plenty of places to get your hunt on! First, you can see if any estate sales are happening that weekend by downloading the EstateSales.net app. If you prefer curated treasures, head over to V & J Duncan Antique Maps and Prints to find a beautiful print for your home. Head to Picker Joe’s to peruse some quirky and curated antiques and head to Tapley’s Mercantile for more antique shopping. You’ll find a deal at these places and tons of trinkets for your home!

Walking Tours: I’m a huge fan of walking tours. I’ve done one in Beaufort, SC and Charleston, SC so it only seemed fitting to do one in Savannah. We were on a bit of a time constraint so we did a self-indulged walking tour through the historic district and Forsyth Park. Follow the map below to see where we went! You’ll want to make a trek down Jones Street, that’s where the phrase “Keeping up with the Jones’s” came from! This self-guided walking tour will take you from Gordon street and end on Jones and weave past some of my favorite houses in the city.

Forsyth Park Farmers Market: Every Saturday rain or shine, Forsyth park has an immense farmers market. You can grab a coffee and a quick pastry while you’re there, or even find some sort of local edible treat to take home with you.

Shopping: You’ll find plenty of places to unload the money you “accidentally” pulled out from the ATM pre-Savannah. The shops on Broughton Street are mid-high end with fun local places in-between. For great clothing be sure to check out The Edition, Terra Cotta and Red Clover Boutique. Do some home decor shopping at Asher & Rye and Courtland & CO. A favorite amongst tourists and locals alike is the Paris Market, known for having French-themed trinkets for you bring home. They also have a café and a bakery inside in case you’re in need of provisions!

Where to Stay

The Perry Lane Hotel: One of the best hotel experiences I’ve had in the South has been at the Perry Lane hotel. It is absolutely stunning and the rooms are top-notch in terms of amenities. They have left no stone unturned and no pillow unfluffed. The hotel itself is designed to have everything you could need: a fantastic cafe, restaurants, and a rooftop bar. You never have to leave if you didn’t want to!

The Alida Hotel: The Alida is a Tribute Marriot hotel so if you travel on Bonvoy points, this is the place to reserve. The hotel is very cool and they even have first come first serve bikes to reserve to explore the city on wheels. There is a lovely bar on the rooftop as well as one in the entryway. The rooms are comfortable and well set up with window seats overlooking the various views.

The Desoto Hotel: I was incredibly surprised at the interior renovation of this hotel. Unfortunately, the original Desoto was torn down to make way for a more architecturally chic hotel when it was rebuilt, however, the Southerly group has committed to bringing this hotel back to its glory days! They found the original chandeliers tucked away on a second story mezzanine and have renovated the bathrooms with ceiling to floor marble. The event space on top has a lovely 360 view of the entire city, plus if you are lucky you can get a view of the St. Phillips Cathedral. If you’re not feeling like you want to chance that luck, request to have room 1201, that’s the one we stayed at which had that gorgeous shot of the church every morning!
