There are a few things greater than well made sweet tea on a hot summer day. I will admit, growing up I didn’t have much of a taste for it- however as I’ve aged, when the sun is scorching overhead the first thing my mouth starts watering for is an ice-cold glass of sweet tea. After lunch at Lowcountry Produce and a quick walk around the block – popping into a bookstore, perusing some storefronts- we came upon a sign that said “Home of the Original Tea Float” outside of the Scout Market.

Now I’m familiar with a regular Ice Cream float: root beer topped with ice cream of some vanilla variety, however, a tea float intrigued me- so in we wandered. We were quickly sucked in by the shelves of everything a southerner needs, copper bits and bobs, shelves of blue and white china, tea towels and well-stocked novelties but soon found ourselves at the back Carrera marble counter with a host of sweets-cladden children and parents trying to reign them in waiting in line for a floated tea.

When it came time to order, I had waiting long enough to know that I wanted a regular tea with peach sorbet. That’s what Scout Market does differently with their tea floats: they add flavor by using fresh, local sorbet. I quickly paid and took my first sip. It was ecstasy on a hot day as we sat in the shade on their back patio and drank down the God-sent liquid.

After serendipitously enjoying every last sip, we headed on our way back to the hotel to get ready for another adventure in this little town, promising to be back tomorrow to try another variety.
