Southern Gentleman Atlanta

Very rarely do you happen upon a restaurant touting itself to be a fine Southern eatery with it’s food still making you feel comforted and the spirits filling you with warmth and nostalgia.

However, in Atlanta the most perfect of Southern restaurants exists in the Shops at Buckhead Atlanta called The Southern Gentleman.

On one such gray and cloudy day we decided to pop over for a little lunch time libation and a tasting of their new winter menu.

Upon entering this Southern institution it is like you are walking into a Southerner’s home, all but missing is a sweet woman clad in vintage Chanel wishing y’all a good day.

Little bits of charm and whimsy lurk around every corner. From beautiful camel colored leather chairs, to white marble countertops, impressive chandeliers and beautifully tiled floors, you better have your camera ready to snap everything up at a moment’s notice. Southern Gentleman Restaurant Atlanta Southern Gentleman Restaurant Atlanta The menu is local and ever changing but their drinks are consistent and some of the most magnificent cocktails I’ve had in Buckhead.

I started with a gin based moscow mule (served appropriately in a copper mug) and we dove right into something healthy. Southern Gentleman Restaurant Atlanta Chilled cauliflower and black eyed pea salad with local farm ricotta, lemon and mint. A superb dish that was extremely light and refreshing.  I really loved the flavors of this dish.

Another wonderful winter salad, I would never have thought to chill squash and then put it in a salad. Southern Gentleman Restaurant Atlanta Next up, the world’s most wonderful Southern Steak Tartare served with a black eyed pea salad and two slabs of the most deliciously thick, buttery crisp pieces of bread. I took one bite of the bread and butter dribbled down my face. It could get you into some serious trouble for sure. The steak tartare was incredible. So full of flavor and the texture was perfect alongside the chewy bread.

What I love the most about the Southern Gentleman is how it oozes Southern hospitality from every corner. Southern Gentleman Restaurant Atlanta

The walls are draped in seersucker cloth, green topiaries sit alongside crystal water glasses on the wooden tables, the dusty blue bounces so lightly off of the white antique tile ceilings. It was like a grandmother’s hug on a cold day. The pork terrine was like a spectacular cold bacon pate. Served alongside spicy fried apple fritters, it was quite a combination! Southern Gentleman Restaurant Atlanta Tory Burch Equestrian Blouse Not being one to resist dessert, we decided to taste the chocolate chess pie and the banoffee tart.

The banoffee tart was really lovely as well, like a stackable banana pudding, it oozed Southern elegance and was quite refreshing! Not a very heavy dessert like it sounded. Southern Gentleman Restaurant Atlanta With our bellies full of delicious food and drink, we headed out into the cold once more but not without a reminder about minding our manners.

With this in mind I decided to wear my (new to me) Tory Burch Equestrian printed silk top and some J Crew pixie pants and a fun pair of heels. Tory Burch Equestrian Blouse Tory Burch Equestrian BlouseIt’s always fun to dress up a little even when you don’t have to. Tory Burch Equestrian BlouseTory Burch Equestrian BlouseTory Burch Equestrian Blouse Tory Burch Equestrian Blouse

With winter in full force down here (yes you can laugh at our half inch of snow) the patio isn’t opened up just yet, but when summer rolls around you can find me out there in a sun dress sipping on a moscow mule soaking up the sunshine.

Promise me you’ll go try their parsnip soup and steak tartare! You can find the The Southern Gentleman at 3035 Peachtree Road NE and they are open for lunch from 11:30-2:30pm and dinner from 5pm-10pm most nights.

There’s not a doubt in my mind you will love it.
